John M. Kilgore, MD

Dr. John Kilgore has practiced medicine in Florida since 1977. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1975 and completed a family practice internship at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
He entered private practice in Brandon, where his colleagues elected him Chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Brandon Hospital.
In 1980, Dr. Kilgore founded Southern Biotech, a medical research company that grew to employ 125 people, including scientists recruited from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and other research institutions. The company’s work contributed to interferon research, including early human studies in multiple sclerosis, and to the production of blood plasma products used in treating burn and hemophilia patients.
After a decade in research, Dr. Kilgore returned to clinical practice, completing training in preventive cardiology at [VERIFY]. In 1990 he opened a private practice focused on preventive medicine, medical weight management, cholesterol management, smoking cessation, and nutrition.
He serves as Medical Director of Brandon Medical Center, overseeing the practice’s medical weight management, hormone, and IV therapy programs at its Brandon and Lakeland locations.
