Dr. Kilgore is a graduate of the University of South Florida where he majored in zoology and chemistry, and the University of Tennessee with honors in 1975.
His career in medicine has spanned clinical practice, treating patients, and medical research. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Kilgore did a family practice internship at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, and entered a private practice in Brandon, Florida. He was Chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Brandon Hospital, elected by the other doctors to this position. Dr. Kilgore opened the first walk-in clinic in the Tampa Bay area.
In 1980, Dr. Kilgore left to found a medical biotech research company, Southern Biotec. Southern Biotech went public and employed one hundred twenty five persons, including sixty doctor scientists he recruited from the most outstanding research hospitals from all over the world. Scientists came from the Sloan Ketterling Cancer Institute and many other world class research institutes to become part of his research team.
He devoted his life to this research, developing new drugs now used in cancer patients, chronic hepatitis and multiple sclerosis patients. His team pioneered the use of Interferon in multiple sclerosis patients.
Dr. Kilgore treated some of the first patients ever treated with Interferon for multiple sclerosis, after his team obtained approval for this human research. Hoffman La Roche continued his research and Interferon has been used to treat thousands of patients. His company also produced blood plasma used to treat burn victims, hemophiliacs, and prevent hepatitis.
After ten years running the research and medicine companies, Dr. Kilgore decided to pursue the field of Preventative Cardiology at some of the finest medical centers, such as Harvard University, where he trained in prevention. In 1990 he began a private practice in preventative cardiology, which included medical weight control, fitness evaluations, cholesterol problems, smoking cessation, and nutrition devoted to wellness and prevention.
The practice has now expanded to include not only wellness and preventative medicine but also enhancement of physical fitness and beauty. Treatments include hormonal therapy to increase muscle strength, health longevity, and enhance sexual performance are provided. Also provided are Botox treatments for tissue filler treatments.
In 2017, Dr. Kilgore once again pioneered in the field of medicine. Dr. Kilgore has completed the certification process by the State of Florida to be one of the first doctors in Florida to provide medical marijuana evaluations for his patients. The Florida voters overwhelmingly supported Amendment Two last November which allows patients with debilitating medical conditions to use Medical Marijuana as a medical treatment in certain cases and for pain management.
Dr. Kilgore believes Medical Marijuana could be beneficial for the overall health and well being of some of his patients whose medical conditions could potentially improve with Medical Marijuana included in an overall treatment plan. Dr. Kilgore looks forward to ensuring that his patients who can benefit from Medical Marijuana will have the opportunity to pursue this new line of treatment.
